How To Get Ready To Get A Bail Bond For Someone

by Dora Lowe

If you have been called upon to help bail someone out of jail and you do not have the cash to do it on your own, you will need to get in touch with a bail bondsman. If you have never gone through this process before, you might not know what to expect. Therefore, you will want to take a little time to review the following:

You Will Still Need To Find Some Cash

In many cases, those who are seeking help with a bail bond will still need to come up with money of their own. This is typically a small amount of the total amount of the bond, such as ten percent. Depending on the case and the total amount of the bond, you might be able to find a bondsman that will be able to work out a deal with you.

You Might Need To Provide Collateral

The larger the bail amount is, the more likely it is that you will be told that you have to provide the bondsman with some collateral. Some examples of collateral that you can use would be the deed to your home or the title to your car. Of course, for either of those to work, they must be paid off. You cannot have a mortgage on the house or a lien on the vehicle and use them as a collateral.

Call For An Appointment

You can save time by calling ahead and scheduling an appointment to talk with the bondsman. This is better than simply going there and ending up having to wait a long time because the bondsman is working with another person or they are out looking for someone that skipped their court date.

Now that you are a tad more familiar with what you need to do and what you should expect when working with a bail bonds company, you will want to go ahead and start to prepare for the application process. This way, you will hopefully be able to receive the bail bond that you need to get your friend or family member out of jail as soon as possible. Once they are out of jail and back at home, they can retain a quality attorney and begin to prepare their defense for court. That is something that would be a lot more difficult to do if they had to remain in jail until their court date.
