If you are planning to relocate, one of the decisions you will have to make is whether to relocate with the furniture or sell them and buy new pieces later. Both options have their pros and cons, with different circumstances calling for one decision or the other. Below are some of the circumstances in which it makes sense to carry the furniture you already have.
You Have Space for the Furniture
There is no point moving with something that you will just keep in storage due to space considerations. Therefore, confirm that your new residence has the space to take all of your furniture pieces before moving with them. This is especially necessary if you are downsizing your home.
You Intend To Use the Furniture
You should also know whether you intend to use the furniture or it will be a superfluous item in your new home. For example, if a cupboard has been sitting in storage for a couple of years or so, it might not be too useful for you. However, the dining set that you use on a daily basis may still have a place in your new home.
The Furniture Is Unique
One of the reasons people sell furniture when moving is to dispense with the hassle and expenses of furniture relocation; they plan to buy replacement furniture when they reach their destinations. However, such a plan cannot help you if you have a unique piece of furniture that is difficult to find in the market. Maybe it is an antique piece that has been in your family for generations. In such a case, it makes sense to relocate with the furniture.
The Furniture Won't Inflate Your Moving Cost
Some of the factors that determine the cost of moving furniture include the size of the furniture, how delicate the furniture is, and whether it can be disassembled. Consider moving with your furniture if it won't inflate your moving costs too much. In fact, if you are using a moving company that bases its prices on weight or size of moving truck, a few pieces of furniture may not make much of a difference to the overall price.
You Are Attached To the Furniture
Lastly, it also makes sense to carry furniture that you are sentimental about or emotionally attached to. Inherited furniture, gifts, or family heirlooms fall in this category. There is no use getting rid of such furniture and regretting our decision later.
