The Difference Between Automatic And Will Call Propane Gas Delivery

by Dora Lowe

If your home relies on propane as a fuel source, you will want to ensure you have the fuel you need when you need it. When working with a propane delivery service, you generally have the option to choose between automatic propane delivery and will call propane delivery. There are differences and similarities in each delivery method, and each method can be effective for different individuals, which is why propane companies offer both options.

How Automatic Delivery Works

With automatic delivery, there is a sensor on your tank that reads the levels of gas inside your tank. When the tank reaches a certain level, the smart tank sensor will send an alert to your propane gas delivery service.

Your propane gas delivery service will then schedule a delivery so that your fuel will not run out. They will notify you about the delivery date via text, email, or an automated phone call, depending on how your account is set up.

With automatic delivery, you have a no-run-out guarantee from most delivery services if you have an intelligent sensor on your tank. This means that you never have to worry about running out of propane.

An automatic delivery service is great for customers who have unrestricted access to their properties, making it easy for the delivery truck to pull up and fill the propane tank whenever necessary. It also works well for customers whose usage varies throughout the year and who generally get multiple deliveries during the year.

How Will Call Delivery Works

With will call delivery, you can still get a smart sensor installed on your propane tank so you can see the level of gas inside your propane tank. The big difference is that you will get a text or email notifications about the tank levels, and it is up to you to decide what to do about it.

When you realize that your tank has reached what is considered the refill level by your propane supply company, you have to call the company and schedule a delivery. With will call delivery, there is not any no-run-out guarantee, so you may run out before delivery is scheduled, especially if you don't schedule the delivery soon enough.

Will call deliveries work well for customers that use propane in a more limited manner and don't have a consistent need for propane. Will call deliveries also work well for customers who have restricted access to their property, such as a gate, that they have to be there to unlock.

When it comes to taking care of your propane gas delivery needs, you need to decide if you are an automatic customer or a will-call customer and which delivery option works best for your gas usage and property access.
